Well we celebrated the New Year and one day later on January 2nd 2010 we get hit with the first major snowstorm for 2010. This weather system brought wet heavy snow to moncton and much of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. So far this winter has been pretty mild as a result of an el nino causing warmer then normal temperatures for this time of year.

Picture of Downtown Moncton During Heavy Snowstorm Warning

So far in 2009 we have had little snow to hit Moncton but this one is a messy one. The wet heavy snow has caused power outages for Moncton and parts of Riverview. On top of power going out for many NB Power customers there was plenty of accidents and people going into the ditches on the highways. It is estimated that we could get up to 25 cm of snow including high winds, freezing rain and a mixture of rain as well. I urge all people who have to go out to drive with caution and reduce their speed. The roads are slippery and snow packed.

We’ve been lucky so far this winter season until now. What does mother nature have in store for us in 2010. Will we keep getting mild temperatures or will we get much more snow for Moncton. For all those people who love to ski they will be wishing for much more snow and colder temperatures. Myself I can’t wait till spring! Till then enjoy the snow and we’ll find out how much snow we will get soon.

It’s still snowing and we have about 15 cm down and more coming. It’s Sunday January 3rd, 2010 at about 9:30pm and and still storming after a short break today. Looks like we’ll have another messy ride to work on our Monday morning. Snow, snow and more snow hitting Moncton!

The forecasted snowstorm bringing 10-20 cm of snow that was to hit the Moncton area starting on Thursday night into Friday has just missed us. People in Moncton can put their snow shovels away for a little while longer but my guess not too much longer. We were suppose to get 10-20cm of snow to fall in the Metro Moncton area but it seems like Nova Scotia will be getting most of the accumulations.

What we will see in southeast New Brunswick will be rain mixed with snow. In Moncton looks like we’ll have some wet slushy weather but at least we won’t be getting all kinds of snow just yet. Some people may be glad to see no snowstorm in Moncton but all the skiers and snowboarders I imagine are all gearing up for another fun season on the slopes. I for one are glad we missed it just yet! I still need to get my snow tires on my car so I better get to the garage very soon.

For all you who miss winter snowstorms in Moncton here’s a quick video to bring back some of the joys of winter . A blizzard in Moncton on Dec.22, 2008 and it ain’t no Dairy Queen Blizzard I am talking about. Does that look like fun to you? I wonder when our first snowstorm in Moncton will hit and wonder what kind of a winter we will have this year. Hopefully a short one!

Doesn’t that bring you back all kinds of memories of a good old fashioned snowstorm in the Moncton area? I can’t wait!
